Umbilical is the invisible thread that weaves the first mother-child bond. They cannot see or touch each other yet, but they can feel each other. Umbilical is a metaphor in the form of music about the permanent bond between a mother and her child throughout life. An invisible cord that links two people through the first shared sounds: the aqueous amniotic fluid, the heartbeat or the voice of the mother.
The pianist and composer David Pradas is inspired by this process to create twelve tunes that symbolize the cycle of life, like the hours of a clock.
The record consists of twelve tunes in which the piano is the main instrument, but you can also listen to a string sextet, quartz bowls, a lady tenor and the voices of five mothers. The melodies in Umbilical incorporate everyday sounds that, along with the instruments, are shelling a whole soundtrack.
For this project, the packaging that contains the CD Umbilical as well as the muslin that wraps it up, made of 100% organic cotton, embroidered with silver thread, is designed.
